Contour & Compass welcomes pitches about maps, navigation, wayfinding, and geography that make a particular idea easier to see. Send proposals through the Contact page, with the editorial question selected.
What makes a strong pitch
A strong proposal names its central question, explains why it matters to readers, and shows how the piece will answer it. Include a working title, a brief outline, the intended category, and any sources or examples you expect to use. Tell us whether the material has appeared elsewhere and disclose any relevant commercial connection.
Topics and approach
We are interested in clear explanations of map design, geographic concepts, route information, navigation tools, and map history. Specific angles are more useful than broad surveys. Proposals should be accurate, original, readable without specialist knowledge, and careful about the limits of maps and location information.
Before sending
A pitch is a proposal, not a guarantee of publication. Do not send confidential or sensitive material, and do not include personal data that is unnecessary to assess the idea. Use the Contact page to introduce yourself and your proposal; there is no need to draft a complete article unless requested.
